Biggest Story

The biggest story of the Trump presidency continues to be that he is responsible for a conservatively estimated half — equaling 71,596 to date — of all U.S. coronavirus pandemic deaths.

This is on top of, after, all his other presidential depravities, any one of which would have sunk another administration:

1) Multiple associates convicted of felonies
2) Sending troops to southern border stunt
3) Massive emoluments clauses violations
4) Family, personal tax fraud
5) Cancellation of new FBI building to protect Trump D.C. hotel business
6) Exacerbation of George Floyd protest tensions with blatant racism
7) Withholding, bungling of aid to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria
8) Acceptance at Helsinki of Putin’s election interference denial, over all U.S. intel
9) Impeachment for extorting Ukraine to get dirt on Joe Biden
10) Individual 1: unindicted co-conspirator ordering hush money, money laundering
11) Firing of multiple inspectors general to stop malfeasance probes of Trump, allies
12) Sister’s resignation from federal judgeship to avoid family tax fraud probe
13) Separation of thousands of migrant children from families
14) Election help from Russia, obstruction of justice x10, dangling of pardons
15) Ordering of AG Barr to quash numerous Trump-related investigations
16) Refusal to confront Putin on bounties paid for dead U.S. troops
17) 20-plus sexual assault, sexual misconduct lawsuits pending
18) Ordering of NOAA to retroactively falsify hurricane data to cover his mistake
19) Trump “charitable” Foundation court order to pay $2M in restitution, and dissolve
20) Trump inaugural committee probe for multiple financial fraud offenses
21) Trump University court order to pay $25M in fraud settlements, and dissolve
22) And others: Access Hollywood, 20,000-plus documented lies, telling of intel secrets to Russians in Oval Office, attacks on Gold Star families, mocking of a physically challenged reporter, push to disqualify a judge with Mexican heritage solely because of that heritage, attacks on NATO, dissing of allies, support for dictators, and many more.

“Pigs-Fly” Theorem

But even considering all this, President Trump conceivably still could win reelection by making an about-face and immediately starting to do everything right to deal with the pandemic effectively.

I call this the “pigs-fly” theorem.

As Washington Post columnist Greg Sargent pointed out, however, in his July 17 piece, making this about-face would involve Donald admitting he made a mistake, simply by the act of changing course. And he is constitutionally incapable of doing or saying anything that would be construed as an admission of a mistake.

Mr. Sargent determined this in the course of perusing Donald’s niece Mary Trump’s new book, Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man, and hearing a book tour interview. Mary currently has a Ph.D. in psychology and was an integral part of the extended family until the late 1990s when she and her brother became involved in an inheritance lawsuit with Donald and his siblings, her aunts and uncles. In her book, she combines Trump clan stories with professional analysis.

Skeletons in the White House

Mary knows where the family skeletons are, what they said about each other before becoming skeletons, and what each skeleton’s DSM-5 psychiatric diagnosis is.

“Let’s call them President Trump’s twin pathologies: The absolute refusal to admit to any sort of fallibility no matter what, and the unshakable faith in lying as an instrument of power that can be wielded with impunity. … Mary Trump explain[s] how each of these functions for her uncle with unsettling clarity.”

(Sargent, Greg; “In a New Interview, Mary Trump Lays Bare Our National Nightmare: Her Uncle”; The Washington Post; 7/17/2020.)

Oh, and Mr. Trump held his first pandemic task force briefing — without the task force — in three months. When asked about Ghislaine Maxwell (recently indicted child sex ring madame for Jeffrey Epstein, and an old Trump friend), Donald “wished her well” (wink, wink translation: “Keep quiet and I’ll take care of you.”) — three times.

My copy should be here any day. She’s a Ph.D. And Donald’s niece. In psychology. ■
